ABOUT ACCCA

ACCCA, The Association of California Community College Administrators, is the foremost member-supported professional organization for administrators and managers of California's 108 community college campuses.

As you will see when you tour the site, ACCCA seeks to provide its members with services, benefits, products and programs that will enhance their professional lives.

ACCCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of administrator's rights. Please refer to our mission and vision statement for a general description of the Association's purpose. Specifically, ACCCA provides insurance benefits, publications, professional development opportunities, business partnerships, advocacy, counseling and assistance to over 1200 full time administrators, associate members, affiliates and corporate members.

As the organizational chart will show, a small administrative staff, selected independent contractors and a vast workforce of volunteers carry out the work of the Association. Our volunteers are the board, commission, committee members and our campus reps.

The ACCCA Board is a 16 to 18 member governing body whose members are elected by the membership to three-year staggered terms. The Board operates on the recommendations of the Executive Committee-a standing committee of the Board who are its officers-the President, President-Elect, 2nd Vice President and Immediate Past President.

The only other standing committee of the Board is the Finance Committee, usually headed by the 2nd Vice President. This committee works with ACCCA's administrative leadership and the accountant to plan and monitor the Association's budget and finances and produce necessary reports for the Board's review.

The administrative functions of the Association are carried out by the Director of Operations and staff. The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Association including state and federal reporting, monitoring personnel and the work of ACCCA's paid contractors, keeping accurate membership records and preparing reports for the board's review. This work requires the Director to liaison with each of the standing committees and the six working commissions of the Board on a constant basis.

ACCCA Commissions

There are six commissions of the Association which carry out the specific tasks devoted to the goals and objectives of the Association. The goals and objectives represent the work plan of the Association and are established each year by the Board.

The Management Development Commission (MDC)
The MDC is the largest of ACCCA's six commissions with 30 members. The commission is divided into teams which focus their work on specific planning areas:

  • The Annual Conference
  • Emerging Programs (Leadership Best Practices (LBP) Workshops)
  • On-Going Programs (Administration 101 and the Mentor Program)
  • Operations
  • The Diversity Forum

The Legislative/Finance Commission (LFC)
The LFC is a commission of 16 to 21 members with liaisons to the Board, the HRC (Human Resource Commission), the Chancellor's Office, the Consultation Council, Board of Governors and ACCCA's Communications Commission.

The Commission monitors and initiates legislation and advocates for members relative to the budget process. A contracted Legislative Advocate who advises the commission and the board and provides information on a continuous basis assists the commission.

The Human Resources Commission (HRC)
The HRC is a commission of 16 to 21 members with liaisons to all HR consortia, the LFC and the Board. They address issues of employer-employee concerns, monitor legislation related to such issues and they produce two critical publications for the Association: the annual salary survey and the quarterly collective bargaining report.

Additionally, the commission monitors the work of two consultants, the Career Consultant who counsels members on career issues and the Retirement Consultant who is on call to members for retirement planning advice.

The Membership Advisory Commission (MAC)
The MAC is a 12-member commission consisting of Co-chairs for recruitment and member-relations, as well as a regional coordinator for each of the ten regions. The regional coordinators connect on a regular basis with the campus representatives within their region-a network of 122 campus and district office representatives. The MAC is the delivery system for information to the Campus Reps and initiates all recruitment activity. They monitor the Association's ACSA/SASS benefits and make recommendations to the ACSA Membership Committee and the ACCCA Board regarding member benefits.

The Corporate Relations Commission (CRC)
The CRC is composed of both education and corporate representatives that monitor business and college partnerships and recommend policy/legislative changes to increase the flexibility of our corporate partners to do business with California community colleges.

They advise the MDC regarding corporate involvement in ACCCA events and monitor the progress of established Alliance Agreements with the Association.

The Communications Oversight Commission (COC)
This commission oversees the work of the Editor and Editorial Board relative to content and production of the monthly newsletter. They also provide input regarding the web site, develop and maintain the Association's marketing plan and provide guidelines for promotional materials.
